GVT has established the following rules based on our commitment to offer safe, clean, reliable, courteous, accessible, and affordable transportation to residents and visitors of the Grand Valley. Failure to comply with the following rules may result in suspension from using the Grand Valley Transit system.

Rules for Riding
While riding the bus GVT passengers are not allowed to:
- Have an open flame
- Drink or have an opened container of alcohol
- Use or possess illegal drugs
- Smoke or vape
- Drink containers must be fully sealed or have screw on caps
- Eat food (unless medically necessary)
- Get on the bus without wearing a shirt and shoes, etc.
- Listen to music without headphones
- Use foul language
- Sleep or doze
- Put feet on seats
- Engage in any illegal activity
- Incite violence, intimidate, or harass other passengers or the bus driver
- Leave trash on the bus, other than in the trash can
- Bring hazardous, flammable, or explosive materials on the bus
- Bring a gun or weapon on the bus
For the courtesy of other passengers, please:
- Limit your conversations with the bus driver while the bus is in motion
- Do not stand or change seats while the bus is in motion.
- Keep hands and arms inside the bus at all times.
- Fold strollers and store them clear of the aisle
- Only bring carry-on packages that fit on the owner's lap or under the seat and clear of the aisle.
Other information and rules:
- Bike racks are provided on every bus and are available on a first come first served basis. There is no additional charge to use the bike racks when you pay the bus fare. Visit BIKE AND RIDE for more information.
- Assistance animals for persons with disabilities may ride the bus, and must be under the control of the owner at all times. No other animals are allowed on the bus.
- Anyone found vandalizing Grand Valley Transit buses is subject to arrest, prosecution and suspension from using the Grand Valley Transit system.
Anyone using threats or harassment toward Grand Valley Transit drivers, staff or other passengers is subject to arrest, prosecution and suspension from using the Grand Valley Transit system.
Rules for Bus Stops
While waiting for the bus at a GVT bus stop or transfer facility, GVT passengers are not allowed to:
- Loiter (remain in the area without the intention of boarding a bus)
- Sleep or doze
- Smoke or vape in bus shelters or near other passengers
- Drink or have an opened container of alcohol
- Use or possess illegal drugs
- Engage in any illegal activity
- Incite violence, intimidate, or harass other passengers, or passersby or adjacent property owners
- Litter
- Run after the bus when you have arrived late in an attempt to get the bus to stop, as this is a safety hazard
- Leave any items or possessions unattended, as they will be removed and discarded
Anyone found doing the following prohibited activities is subject to arrest, prosecution, and/or suspension from using the GVT system:
- Vandalizing GVT property
- Vandalizing or damaging property in the nearby vicinity of a transit stop
- Using threats or harassment toward GVT drivers, staff, other passengers, passersby, or adjacent property owners
GVT may assist property owners and law enforcement in investigating any vandalism or damage of property in the nearby vicinity of a transit stop.
